Dr Chris Sarra Visits Yarrabah State School

2/06/2015
Yarrabah State School hosted Dr Sarra to deliver a series of workshops to Education Assistants, teachers and leadership focusing on High Expectations Relationships. Chris met with representatives of the Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council and spoke about High Expectations and the role of councillors in moving our community forward. He is very interested in our community approach to student absenteeism and a whole of family approach to this problem.

Dr Sarra is the preeminent educator and researcher in indigenous education in Australia today with his work closely followed by academics across the world. Chris visited classrooms to observe teaching and learning. Our prep classes have introduced Investigative Play to support student skill and vocabulary development. Our prep students are demonstrating skill levels earlier than ever before. These students will be level with any other student in Queensland schools. We have highly accomplished teachers who demonstrate commitment and high expectations for our children’s learning.
