Aquarium visit

This term, year two learned about life cycles and sea creatures. We wrote information reports for English and compared the similarities and differences of animals in Science. In weeks 8 and 9, we held a disco and sold ice-creams to fundraise for our excursion. We made $220!

After working hard and learning about animals all term, on Thursday 13th September, year 2 went on an excursion to the Cairns Aquarium. We explored different habitats and saw sharks, starfish, seahorses, snakes, frogs, jellyfish and lots of other sea creatures.

We saw two divers swimming in the tank with the sharks and stingrays and we had fun waving to them. We were able to answer questions about different types of animals including reptiles and we patted a blue tongue lizard. We felt starfish in the touch tank and we were so excited when we saw the clownfish. It reminded us of Nemo!

Did you know that blue tongues don’t hatch from eggs? They have live young! Another interesting fact we learned was male seahorses have babies!  Ask your friends and family members from grade 2 if you would like to know any more interesting facts about sea creatures!
